A two-year-old boy died while his three-year-old brother fell critically ill after the children drank milk purchased from a local dairy shop in Lahore’s Nishtar Colony.
The children’s family bought milk from a neighbourhood dairy vendor and fed it to the two brothers. Shortly afterwards, the younger child Faizan died, while his brother Zain became seriously ill.
The family took both children to Lahore General Hospital, where doctors pronounced Faizan dead. Zain remains in critical condition and is receiving medical treatment at the hospital.
Superintendent of Police (SP) Model Town said that the parents had purchased the milk from a local dairy vendor. Police have arrested two people associated with the shop as part of the investigation into the incident.
Forensic experts and the Punjab Food Department also joined the investigation to determine whether the milk contained a substance that caused the child’s death and his brother’s illness.
The forensic team and food department officials collected milk samples for laboratory analysis. The findings will establish the exact cause of the incident, while the investigation into the dairy shop continues.
A similar incident occurred earlier in Lahore’s Harbanspura area, where two children died and their parents fell critically ill after consuming leftover food at home.
Police said Qadeer, his wife Asma and their two children ate curry prepared the previous night. All four family members developed serious symptoms and were taken to a hospital, where both children died during treatment.
A crime scene unit and forensic experts collected food samples and other evidence from the house. The food department also joined the investigation to help determine the cause of the deaths.
Police suspected that a lizard might have contaminated the leftover curry, but officials have not confirmed the cause.
