The Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) has arrested a suspected agent of India’s Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) during an Intelligence-Based Operation (IBO) near New Ghala Mandi in Pakpattan city, officials said.
According to CTD sources, a mobile team led by Under Officer Fida Hussain received information about the presence of a suspect near New Ghala Mandi on Monday night.
The team raided the location and arrested the suspect, identified as Wajid Ali, a resident of Bajaur district in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP).
CTD officials alleged that Ali was planning terrorist activities targeting sensitive and security installations in and around Pakpattan.
During the raid, officials recovered a shoulder bag containing 1,825 grams of explosive material, the sources said.
The team also seized electronic devices, Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), an iron box, a camera, three battery holders, electric circuits, detonators, wires and Rs2,400 in cash.
The CTD called the Bomb Disposal Squad to the scene. A team led by Asgher Ali deactivated a live device found inside the suspect’s bag, officials said.
The CTD registered case No 29/26 under Sections 4 and 5 of the Explosive Act 1908 and Section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act (ATA) 1996 on the complaint of CTD Under Officer Waseem Ahmed.
Officials shifted the suspect to the CTD headquarters in Sahiwal for further investigation.
A regional anti-terrorism court granted the CTD a seven-day physical remand of the suspect on Tuesday and directed authorities to produce him before the court again on Sept 29.
