An Indian police constable who was deployed as a rooftop sniper during the BRICS Summit was suspended after posting Instagram videos of himself handling a service pistol and looking through a sniper rifle scope from the terrace of a central Delhi hotel where foreign delegates were staying.
Constable Deepak Bangar had been deployed for BRICS security at a five-star hotel in central Delhi. He was assigned to sniper duty on the hotel terrace.
Two videos posted from Bangar’s Instagram account, @jaat.bangar.0143, later came to the attention of the police department. The account was subsequently blocked.
In one video, Bangar appeared in civilian clothes while wearing his BRICS Summit 2026 identity card and handling a service pistol. The footage also showed the hotel premises and its surroundings.
In another video, he was seen looking through the scope of a sniper rifle from the hotel terrace, with several nearby VVIP structures visible in the background.
Bangar had posted videos featuring firearms from his security post for several days. The footage drew attention on social media, with users questioning why such videos had been recorded and shared while Bangar was assigned to a sensitive security operation.
The videos prompted the Delhi Police to remove Bangar from his BRICS duty and suspend him with immediate effect. He was subsequently sent back to his home district in the northwest.
A senior police officer stated that the department had ordered a departmental inquiry to establish how the videos had been recorded and uploaded. The officer said that further disciplinary proceedings would follow according to the rules.
Senior police officers also said that Bangar had previously been deployed at and around five-star hotels and other key locations associated with guests attending the BRICS Summit.
