A landlord-tenant dispute turned into a physical altercation in the Wah Cantt police station area after the affected family alleged that several people entered their house, assaulted women and damaged property in the presence of police personnel.
Videos of the incident also surfaced online, showing women calling for help while several people entered the house as police personnel stood nearby. The Potohar Superintendent of Police (SP) has been appointed as an inquiry officer to investigate the incident.
The dispute concerns a house rented to a former government officer. According to the affected family, the property was rented out two years ago under a one-year agreement, which has since expired.
Safdar Ali, head of the affected family, said that the tenant had been asked to vacate the house for the past year after the agreement ended. He alleged that the tenant later entered the property with several people, assaulted women and damaged household items.
The family also alleged that police personnel present at the scene did not intervene and sided with the other party.
Police stated that the matter involved a landlord and tenant and that the dispute had already been brought to the Wah Cantt police station’s notice. According to police, the affected party submitted an application a day before the latest incident.
A police spokesperson said that officers responded immediately after receiving a call about the altercation. The spokesperson added that both parties had lodged complaints against each other.
Police also stated that officers visited the roof of the house to verify the complaints, but another altercation broke out between the two families after police arrived.
The spokesperson said that people from both sides sustained injuries during the latest incident and were referred for medical examination. Police will take further action after receiving the medical reports.
According to police, both parties will be summoned and legal action will follow in accordance with the law. The spokesperson said that those responsible will be identified and the matter will be handled on merit.
