Lahore police are investigating the case of an influencer who has been accused of animal abuse after she posted photos showing animals lying in pools of blood.
The photos, shared via the account @dejaylazawal, showed a white rabbit lying in a pool of blood, seemingly dead. Screenshots circulating online also showed the influencer replying to questions about the act with explicit and violent language. Other photos showed animals imprisoned in small cages, including a black and white cat.
As the content spread online, citizens reported the account and notified authorities. ASP Shehrbano Naqvi confirmed that the DHA police reacted swiftly. The scene the police saw was described as extremely upsetting, with cigarettes, animal remains, and blood discovered at the location.
The girl was allegedly laughing when the officials arrived. Her father was reportedly trying to protect her from the police. Authorities suspect she may be experiencing mental health challenges but there has been no confirmed formal diagnosis.
ASP Naqvi indicated that the suspect had been posting images of brutally tortured animals, including cats and rabbits. She urged the public not to allow individuals dealing with mental health or addiction to keep pets and called on families and communities to remain watchful.
PARC (Pakistan Animal Rescue Center) has since moved the surviving animals to a secure shelter. Wild species found at the location are being sent to the Wildlife Department.
The police have verified that a First Information Report (FIR) will be filed. The influencer will be prohibited from possessing animals in her care.
ASP Shehrbano expressed gratitude to Anoshay, a citizen who helped unveil the case, and recognized her contributions to the rescue effort and raising awareness about the abuse. "Thank you for being a genuine person," she stated. "Animal cruelty is not an isolated occurrence; it frequently leads to violence against vulnerable communities."
