Actor Mahira Khan has reignited conversations about a possible sequel to ‘The Legend of Maula Jatt’ with a throwback post four years after its release.

In the post, she reflected on her journey with the film and wrote, “Oh maybe we should do this again.” She also tagged producer Ammara Hikmat and director Bilal Lashari.

The Legend of Maula Jatt released in cinemas in October 2022 and went on to become the highest grossing Pakistani film of all time.

Directed by Bilal Lashari, the film is a remake of the 1979 Punjabi classic Maula Jatt and stars Fawad Khan, Mahira Khan, Hamza Ali Abbasi and Humaima Malick. Mahira played the role of Mukkho, Maula Jatt’s love interest, in the film.

Lashari wrote and directed The Legend of Maula Jatt, also serving as its cinematographer and editor. Hikmat, on the other hand, produced the film and has previously described it as a project meant to change the trajectory of the Pakistani film industry.

Mahira, who made her acting debut with the 2011 film Bol and rose to nationwide fame through the drama serial Humsafar, also has a Bollywood flick to her name – having played Aasiya Qazi, the strong-willed and supportive wife of the title character Raees Alam, portrayed by superstar Shah Rukh Khan.

Her recent work includes the 2025 romantic drama Neelofar alongside Fawad Khan, the 2025 film Love Guru with Humayun Saeed and Aag Lagay Basti Mein opposite Fahad Mustafa in 2026.
