A female doctor at the Provincial Civil Hospital in Quetta suffered severe burn injuries on Saturday after a hospital employee allegedly threw acid on her. The suspect was later killed in a police encounter while attempting to flee the city.

A CCTV footage of the incident circulated widely on social media.

According to reports, around 70 per cent of the doctor’s body was affected. She suffered burn injuries to her face, chest, legs and other parts of her body.

She was shifted to a private hospital after receiving initial treatment at the Civil Hospital, and arrangements were made to transfer her to Karachi via air ambulance.

The suspect fled the hospital immediately after the attack. Police traced him to a bus terminal where he was attempting to board a bus out of Quetta. Officers asked him to surrender, but he opened fire on the police party. Police retaliated and the suspect was killed in the exchange of fire.

“The accused was killed in a police encounter while attempting to escape from Quetta by bus,” Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Quetta Imran Shaukat told media.
