Pakistani designer Parishae Adnan has revealed that she turned down an invitation to appear on Nadia Khan’s morning show Rise and Shine for two years.

“So grateful that I’m surrounded by the best people. The best women. That recognise that this was some dumb sh*t that just shouldn’t have happened. For two years I’ve said no to this show. I remember again why I should’ve refused again,” she wrote on Instagram amid widespread criticism over Nadia’s moral policing when Adnan appeared on her show.

The designer’s appearance had followed her closing at Flying Solo’s showcase during New York Fashion Week this month with her collection Second Skin. Flying Solo is one of the largest independent designer platforms featured during the event, and Adnan’s label was selected to close it.

However, during the interview, Nadia fixated on Adnan’s gym videos, questioning her clothing choices instead.

“Tell me, being in this society, the videos you make in the gym and the clothes you are wearing there, there must be a great deal of criticism. Didn’t your parents get upset at what you were doing?” she asked.

Adnan responded saying, “I think safety is a concern. But other than that, I’ll tell you the reason that wakes me up and takes me to the gym, the reason why I wake up in the morning and go to the gym, is that when I get messages in my inbox from all those girls, women, even men, who see something and get inspired and start their strength and self-training journey, for me, that’s a big thing.”

She later also shared a video of her reactions to the questions on Instagram, adding a laughing emoji.

Her mother, Huma Adnan, commented that the questions were “uncalled for”.

Actor Anika Zulfiqar also criticised the interview, writing that Nadia should “do some research on your guests before the show”.

She added that Nadia had ignored the insight Adnan could have shared and instead asked “basic judgy aunty questions”.

“The world has moved on and you’re still stuck where you were. Sad.”

Actor Yasir Hussain also commented on the incident, writing in Urdu that a lack of knowledge, a poor script and pressure over ratings can lead people to lower their standards.

Parishae Adnan is the daughter of designers Amir Adnan and Huma Adnan.
