A 75-year-old man drowned after he and his wife jumped into a canal in Bahawalpur, reportedly distressed by the behaviour of their children.
According to rescue authorities, the incident took place near the Baghdad-ul-Jadeed police check post along the Shashmahi Canal.
Officials said the elderly couple jumped into the canal, prompting a rescue operation at the scene.
Rescue personnel managed to save the woman, while the 75-year-old man drowned in the canal.
Rescue authorities launched a search operation to locate the man after he went missing in the water.
According to officials, the search was suspended during the night after darkness made it difficult for rescue teams to continue the operation.
The operation was resumed after daybreak, with rescue personnel continuing their efforts to locate the elderly man.
Officials said the couple were reportedly distressed over a family matter involving their children.
