Local police have found the bodies of an elderly couple with their throats slit inside a house near Bibi Amma Park in North Karachi on Wednesday, a private media outlet has reported.

The deceased were identified as Muhammad Yameen and his wife, Nafisa, both aged between 65 and 70. Police said that the couple had returned to Pakistan from Canada some time ago.

Investigators found no apparent signs of robbery at the house, as household items remained in place and mobile phones were also recovered from the property.

Police said that the couple had planned to sell the house and had been carrying out renovations. Their children live abroad while some relatives reside in Pakistan.

Rescue officials said that the bodies had neck wounds likely caused by a sharp-edged weapon. Police are collecting evidence to determine the circumstances that led to the killings.

Sindh Chief Minister (CM) Syed Murad Ali Shah took notice of the incident and sought an immediate report from the Additional Inspector General (AIG) of Karachi.

The chief minister directed police to arrest the suspects and bring them to justice. He also ordered a scientific investigation to establish the motive behind the killings.

Murad Ali Shah said that those who threaten peace and security in the city will not be shown any leniency.

Earlier, Sindh Home Minister Ziaul Hassan Lanjar sought details of the incident from Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Central.

Lanjar directed police to take immediate steps to establish the facts and investigate all aspects of the case. He also instructed Central Police to complete all legal formalities and submit a report outlining the incident and initial findings.
