A 64-year-old man surrendered himself at a Karachi police station on Thursday morning, confessing to killing his wife after she refused to have marital relations with him.
According to Sub-Inspector Chandio of the Pakistan Bazaar police station, Ali Akbar walked in and told officers he had committed a murder. Police initially suspected he might be mentally unstable, but later verified his claim.
Akbar told police he had killed his 58-year-old wife, Asma, by striking her on the head with an iron rod at their residence in Sector 11½ of Orangi Town.
Officers reached the location and recovered the blood-soaked body of the woman. The husband also handed over the iron rod he had used to kill the woman.
During initial interrogation, Akbar told police that he had sought to have marital relations with his wife on Wednesday night, which she refused. The disagreement escalated into an argument and physical altercation, during which he struck her with the rod, killing her on the spot.
Police said that the suspect is a retired serviceman who claimed to have previously served in East Pakistan. The couple have two sons and two daughters. Their daughters are married and live separately, while both sons were at work when the incident took place. The husband and wife were alone in the house at the time.
A case has been registered and an investigation is underway. Police are recording statements from the victim’s family members and neighbours.
