Indian hockey umpire and technical official Gurinder Singh Sangha has reportedly left the Asian Games in Japan after allegations of misconduct and sexual harassment.

The allegations and the circumstances of his departure could not be independently verified.

The Asian Hockey Federation (AHF) appointed Sangha as an umpire for the Games. AHF officials in Nagoya declined to comment.

Sangha rejected all the allegations. He said disagreements arose at the start of the Games and that he had already suggested this would be his last event.

Hockey Punjab president Nitin Kohli said he knew of the reports and was verifying the information.

An Indian Olympic Association official said the matter involves neither the IOA nor Hockey India, because the AHF appoints umpires and technical officials for the Asian Games.

This is not the first complaint against Sangha. During the 2025 Hockey India League in Ranchi, a female umpire also complained about him. Hockey India formed a three-member committee to investigate. A Hockey India official said the committee did not find enough evidence against him.

The latest complaint follows another misconduct case in Indian hockey earlier this year.

Hockey India removed a member of the Indian women’s team support staff after harassment allegations.
