England's Jacob Bethell ruled out of Champions Trophy after injury
England's all-rounder Jacob Bethell has been ruled out of the Champions Trophy after sustaining a hamstring injury during the ongoing ODI series against India.
According to Indian media reports, England captain Jos Buttler has confirmed that the left-handed batter will not be available for the tournament, which is set to take place in Pakistan. Bethell suffered the injury during the first ODI against India in Nagpur.
The 21-year-old made his ODI debut for England in September and showcased an impressive performance in the first match against India, scoring 51 runs and taking the wicket of Shreyas Iyer. However, his injury forced him to miss the remainder of the three-match series, with England calling up Tom Banton as his replacement before the second ODI.
Speaking after England's loss in the second ODI, Jos Buttler expressed his disappointment over Bethell's exclusion from the Champions Trophy. "I am quite certain that Jacob is out of the Champions Trophy. This is really unfortunate for him as he played well in the last game and is a talented cricketer," said Buttler.
He also stated that Bethell's absence is a setback for England, as he has been one of the most promising players in recent times.
Further details regarding Bethell's injury status are expected in the coming days, as England has yet to make an official announcement.
The deadline for making changes to the Champions Trophy squad is set for February 12.
The Champions Trophy is scheduled from February 19 to March 9 in Pakistan and the UAE.
