Lahore-born Zanib Naveed — crowned Miss Pakistan World in 2012 — was killed when her car hit a pavement and overturned into oncoming traffic, The New York Post has reported, citing police sources from Pomona, a village in Rockland County, New York state.
According to the police, the 32-year-old was driving when she attempted to take a curve to another road, but her car struck a pavement and flipped over.
She was ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene.
Naveed graduated from Pace University in 2011 before going on to compete in the Miss Pakistan World pageant, which was held in Toronto, Canada. On August 24, 2012, she became the 10th person to win the pageant’s title.
She then went on to represent Pakistan in the 2012 Miss Earth pageant in the Philippines, which is the third-largest pageant after Miss World and Miss Universe.
Her Facebook account lists her as the President of the Miss Pakistan USA organisation.
She is survived by her parents, her brothers and her husband, Ali-Haider Shah, who took to social media to express his grief.
