For a year, ever since Travis Kelce proposed Taylor Swift in his Kansas City backyard, fans have hunted for clues about the ceremony. This week, those clues have piled up around one address – Madison Square Garden.

New York City officials confirmed to an international media platform that a street closure permit was filed for the roads around the arena over the July 4 weekend.

Dora Pekec, spokesperson for the New York City mayor’s office, told an international media platform that the permit was submitted in early June, covering July 2 to 4. The New York Times first reported the filing, along with news that several Kansas City Chiefs players had booked hotel rooms nearby.

While The New York Times has not outright called the event a wedding, describing it instead as a celebration that could tie into the couple’s nuptials, New York Police Department (NYPD) Commissioner Jessica Tisch addressed the event at a news conference this week, confirming her department is staffing it without giving details.

Friday is being described as the main event, with around 1,000 guests, a cocktail hour on the sixth-floor concourse and a reception. Around 500 vehicles are expected to bring guests through a tented VIP entrance.

Crews have been photographed unloading foliage, boxes marked “branches”, a box labelled “40-inch mirror ball”, a staircase railing and food deliveries that included lobster. Trucks bearing “Garden Party” and “GP” loading signs have been spotted through the week.

New York’s Mayor Zohran Mamdani has leaned into the speculation rather than deny it, previously joking about the city hosting a World Cup match the same weekend as “Taylor Swift’s wedding”.

On Tuesday, addressing an incoming heat wave, he said, “If you happen to be getting married at MSG, you will be staying inside and staying cool, and I think it’s a good example to set for the city at large.”

Not everyone is convinced the arena event is the real ceremony. Some reports suggest it could be a decoy staged for privacy elsewhere, with several outlets claiming the couple will hold a smaller, separate ceremony before the Garden celebration.

Betting platform Kalshi says wagers on the wedding have already crossed $4.5 million while Swift and Kelce have not yet addressed the speculation directly.
