Police in Zhob have registered a case against two convicts and unidentified facilitators after two prisoners serving 25-year sentences for drug offences were released from Central Jail Zhob on forged court orders.
According to jail department officials, the two convicts, Abdul Salam and Amanullah, were serving separate sentences when they were released on May 30.
The documents authorising their release were subsequently found to be fake.
Officials said the purported court orders were delivered around sunset to a security official stationed at the jail gate by an unidentified person.
The official allegedly failed to verify the documents properly before they were acted upon, leading to the release of the two prisoners.
A case was registered at City Police Station, Zhob, against Salam and Amanullah as well as unidentified people accused of facilitating their release, officials added.
The Prisons Department has also taken disciplinary action against three jail officials over the incident.
Central Jail Zhob Superintendent Habibullah, the deputy superintendent and a clerk have been suspended for alleged negligence and dereliction of duty.
The investigation has been handed over to the Crimes Branch, which is working to locate and re-arrest the two released convicts and establish the identities of those who helped secure their release, officials said.
