A stray bullet killed the 19-year-old daughter of Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) MNA Iqbal Mehsud Khan in Karachi’s Gulshan-e-Iqbal area.
The victim, identified as Mah Noor, was a medical student. According to Gulshan-e-Iqbal Station House Officer (SHO) Mohammad Saud, the incident occurred at 10 pm on Saturday night. The student was on the terrace of her home in Block 7 when a bullet fired from an unknown direction struck her in the head.
She was immediately moved to Patel Hospital, a private facility in the vicinity, where she remained under treatment until Sunday morning, when she succumbed to the injury.
Local police have completed legal formalities at the hospital. However, SHO Saud stated that the family showed hesitation on registrating a First Information Report (FIR).
While the family maintained that the death was the result of a stray bullet and declined to pursue legal charges, the police have started an investigation. Officials are currently examining the case from various angles to identify where the shot originated.
National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq offered condolences to the MNA, describing the death of a daughter as “an irreparable loss that no words can truly console,” adding that “her absence leaves a void that can never be filled.” He offered prayers for the family to find the strength to bear the loss.
