The trailer for Omair Rana and Ahad Raza Mir’s upcoming spy film, based on the beloved Urdu novel series Inspector Jamshed, is finally out, and it delivers exactly what fans have been hoping for. Fast cars, blazing guns, secret societies and the enduring power of family all feature prominently.
DRM Production released the trailer for Inspector Jamshed: The Secret Parchment on Friday, marking Rana’s silver screen debut in the titular role of Inspector Jamshed. The film is slated for release in 2027.
The plot centres on a secret parchment and a string of murders carried out by Behzaad, played by Ahad Raza Mir, the film’s antagonist. The role also marks a shift toward action for the actor.
Jamshed, played by Omair, is supported in his mission by his three children, with Ravel Imran playing Mehmood, Ahmed Harkous playing Farooq and Aline Harkous playing Farzana. Anoushay Abbasi plays Shakeela Begum, Jamshed’s wife, while Asif Raza Mir plays Khan Rehman, the inspector’s loyal friend and a co-producer on the project.
The film also features Faran Tahir as Zafar Iqbal Burki and Jad Hadid as Inspector Ikram.
The trailer is packed with explosions, high-tech gadgets and sweeping shots of Abu Dhabi, where the film was shot. It also hints at emotional stakes, showing a moment of struggle between Jamshed and Shakeela after Behzaad kidnaps their daughter.
The film draws from prolific Urdu novelist Ishtiaq Ahmed’s series of children’s novels, which followed the adventures of a super spy and his three children as they battled evil alongside a colourful cast of side characters. Ahmed, who passed away in 2015, began writing in 1973 and authored close to 800 books over his career. His other popular works include the Inspector Kamran Mirza and Shoki Brothers series.
In an earlier promotional clip, Ahad Raza Mir, who plays Behzaad, and Faran Tahir, who plays Zafar Iqbal Burki, said the project held special meaning for them because they “grew up” reading books from the series.
Rana described the making of the film as “the whole world coming together”, pointing to its diverse cast and crew, which includes people from more than 13 nationalities.
