Lahore High Court has ordered the release of a man who was allegedly confined to a psychiatric rehabilitation centre by his own children in an attempt to gain control of his property.
Justice Farooq Haider issued the order while hearing a habeas corpus petition. During the proceedings, Shadman Police produced the man, identified as Nasir Khan Daulatana, before the court.
The petitioner’s counsel argued that Nasir Khan had been unlawfully admitted to a mental health rehabilitation centre despite being of sound mind. The court was asked to order his recovery and release from the facility, a request that was granted after hearing arguments.
According to the petition, Nasir Khan owns valuable commercial land in Luddan, Vehari. His lawyer told the court that he had entered into an agreement on June 19, 2026, to sell eight acres of land for Rs280 million.
The counsel alleged that following the land sale agreement, four of Nasir Khan’s children, one son and three daughters, had him forcibly admitted to the rehabilitation centre on June 28 after declaring him mentally unfit.
The petition further stated that Nasir Khan had previously transferred ownership of 80 acres of land to his children, but a dispute later arose after he decided to sell additional property.
The lawyer maintained that the confinement was motivated by financial interests rather than any genuine mental health concerns and urged the court to intervene.
After considering the submissions, the Lahore High Court ordered that Daulatana be released from the rehabilitation centre, concluding the habeas corpus proceedings.
