A fire at a K-Electric grid station near Karachi’s Baloch Colony Expressway early Tuesday disrupted power supply to several areas of the city.
According to reports, Chief Fire Officer Humayun Khan stated that the fire broke out in three panels at the Baloch Colony grid station.
He said that fuel tanks were located above the panels and that flames had reached 30 to 40 feet in the air by the time rescue teams arrived at the site.
Eight fire-fighting vehicles and two water bowsers reached the site and took part in the operation to control the blaze that erupted at around 4 am. Edhi ambulances also reached the scene after receiving information about the fire.
Firefighters brought the fire under control, while the cooling process was underway by the filing of this report.
Humayun said that no loss of life was reported in the incident, however, the fire affected the grid station’s operations and disrupted power supply to several nearby areas.
Reports quoted residents as saying that they heard a loud explosion early Tuesday before spotting flames rising from the grid station.
They also reported power suspension in Manzoor Colony, Baloch Colony, Mahmoodabad and PECHS following the fire.
Initial probe into the blaze points to a short-circuit, officials said.
