More than two weeks after the incident took place, Adilpur police in Sindh’s Ghotki district have registered an FIR [First Information Report] against the gang rape of a teenage girl.

According to the details, the police registered the FIR against five suspects based on a complaint filed by the girl’s father under Section 376(2) of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC). The legal provision carries a punishment of death or life imprisonment for individuals who commit rape with common intention.

The incident occurred on May 3 while the girl and her parents worked in the fields of a local landowner, the FIR said.

The complainant stated that he heard his daughter’s cries from the landowner’s sitting room, located a distance away from where he was working.

His wife ran toward the room, where the landowner and four other men were present. The father nominated three men in the FIR, while two others, including an armed individual, remain unidentified.

The complainant stated that the landowner and another suspect ordered a worker to strip the girl. The armed man held the mother and daughter at gunpoint as they pleaded. The suspects then stripped and raped the girl, threatening to kill the family if they reported the incident.

Prior to the registration of the case, the police claimed that the allegations lacked truth. The case was registered after the intervention of Sindh Suhai Organisation head Ayesha Dharejo, who approached the Sindh inspector general (IG).

“I was present with the family at the Adilpur police station and got the FIR registered on the complaint of the girl’s father,” Dharejo stated.

She confirmed that the victim underwent a medical examination at the taluka hospital in Ghotki and that the police initiated an investigation following the registration of the case.

The registration followed a press conference held by the girl and her parents in Sukkur on Monday, where they publicly accused the landowner and his companions of the assault.
