A five-year-old boy died after falling into an open manhole in the Sundar area of Lahore, a private media outlet has reported.
According to reports, the child, identified as Hassan Amir, was playing on a street near Rana Town behind a local mosque when the incident occurred Tuesday.
Locals extracted the child from the drainage pit and transported him to Indus Hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead.
The father of the victim, Amir Jameel, registered a FIR [First Information Report] at the Sundar Police Station under Section 322 of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC), which pertains to manslaughter.
“At about 6 pm, my son Hassan Amir, aged five, while playing in the street, fell into a pit,” Jameel stated in the FIR.
The complainant held specific entities accountable for the incident in the police report, stating, “The responsible parties for my son’s death are the concerned administration, the Atomic Energy Society (Maraka) administration and A&B Construction Company management.”
Meanwhile, Saddar Division Superintendent of Police (SP) Shah Rukh Khan visited the site of the incident to meet the family.
Lahore Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police (Operations) Mohammad Faisal Kamran confirmed that an investigation is underway, saying those found responsible will face legal proceedings.
The action came as area residents staged protests following the casualty, demanding that the administration cover all open drainage pits in the locality.
