Pakistani actress and TV host Fiza Ali has apologised after a clip from her morning show went viral and drew widespread criticism online, calling the moment a family one with no negative intent behind it.

The clip, from her show Mornings with Fiza on City News Network, showed her husband Ejaz Khan lifting her onto his shoulder during a live broadcast. The moment came after Fiza's daughter Faraal, who was also present on the show, asked her father to pick her mother up.

Ejaz obliged and Faraal clapped along happily, but the video spread quickly on social media and triggered a sharp backlash from viewers.

The Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) issued a show-cause notice to the Chief Executive Officer of City News Network over the clip.

Following the criticism, Fiza posted a video message on her Facebook account in which she said the moment had no wrong or negative purpose.

"This was a family moment and it should not have been taken in a negative way," she said. "If anyone's feelings were hurt or if anyone misunderstood it, I apologise for that." She added that she respects her viewers and will demonstrate greater care and responsibility in her programmes going forward.

Before the video apology, she had also posted a written statement on Instagram, saying that the clip circulated on social media without any context. She described it as a light-hearted and spontaneous moment that carried no negative meaning.
