Italian police have arrested two Pakistani nationals in connection with the murder of four Pakistani farm workers, whose bodies were discovered inside a burnt-out minivan in southern Italy.
The vehicle was uncovered at a petrol station near the village of Amendolara, located within a vast agricultural zone in the Calabria region. According to law enforcement sources, CCTV footage from the service station captured two individuals blocking the vehicle’s doors from the outside before pouring a liquid in the interior.
The security footage subsequently showed a fire breaking out before the two suspects fled the scene. Local firefighters discovered the four casualties inside the vehicle after successfully extinguishing the blaze.
Investigating authorities confirmed the criminal nature of the incident immediately. “This is definitely murder, we just have to work out the details,” stated local police chief Antonio Borelli regarding the active investigation.
Local reports indicate that the fatal incident follows a pattern of recent violence in the agricultural sector, marking the 14th case of arson involving vehicles transporting Pakistani workers in the area over recent months. Investigators point to escalating territorial tensions among migrant laborers competing for farm work, residency documentation, and local accommodation arrangements.
