Four policemen have been injured on Saturday when terrorists opened fire on a police party in the Hathala area of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP)’s Dera Ismail Khan district, police have said.

The police party, led by Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Kefayat, was travelling near Pota and Al-Amin Farm House when terrorists fired at them, according to a statement from the district police spokesperson.

Police shot back, triggering an exchange of fire between the two sides. The police vehicle overturned during the exchange, leaving several personnel injured, the spokesperson said.

District Police Officer (DPO) Ziauddin Ahmed told a private media outlet that four policemen were injured, with one sustaining a bullet wound.

“The condition of all the injured is out of danger,” he said.

A heavy contingent from Ijaz Shaheed Police Lines was sent to the area following the attack. Officials cordoned off the area and launched a search operation.

The incident comes weeks after a suicide bombing near Kabal Police Station in Swat killed at least 14 people and injured 18 others.

According to the Centre for Research and Security Studies’ (CRSS) Annual Security Report 2025, violence in KP increased significantly last year, with fatalities rising from 1,620 in 2024 to 2,331 in 2025.

The report said the increase of 711 deaths accounted for more than 82 percent of the net rise in fatalities across the country and represented an almost 44 percent year-on-year increase in violence in the province.
