Police claim to have solved the murder case of 13-year-old Saqib Ali in Lahore’s Manga Mandi, arresting a close friend of the victim as the prime suspect.

Investigation In-charge of Manga Mandi Police Station Murtaza Aslam, leading a special police team, nabbed the accused following a targeted operation. According to Aslam, the accused struck Saqib on the head with a stone and then strangled him with a rope over a minor dispute. He then fled the scene.

Earlier, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Syed Zeeshan Raza had taken notice of the murder and constituted a special team under Saddar Superintendent of Police (SP) Investigation to track down those responsible.

The SP Investigation told media that the accused managed to escape immediately after the incident, but was eventually traced and arrested through a combination of modern technology and human intelligence.

DIG Zeeshan Raza said that the accused was now in custody and that a strong challan would be filed to ensure he received fitting punishment. “Criminals who kill children will be dealt with an iron hand,” he warned.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Muhammad Naveed separately announced commendation certificates for the police team involved in the operation.
