The President of the United States (US) Donald Trump stormed off the set of an interview after host Kristen Welker repeatedly pushed back on his claims. The internet wasted no time in reacting.
The interview, filmed at a farm event in Wisconsin, went sideways when Welker challenged Trump on his claim that California’s ongoing primary elections were “rigged.” When asked for evidence, Trump told her: “All I have to do is look, and I listen”.
Welker shot back that was not evidence. Trump called the media “crooked” and pulled the plug: “Sorry, let’s call it quits because I’ve had enough. Thank you darling, have a good time”.
He then stood up and walked off the set.
The clip spread fast online, with many pointing out the contrast between a visibly agitated Trump and a composed Welker.
Journalist Mehdi Hassan also weighed in on X, saying he had long predicted exactly this. “The guy is a snowflake. He’d walk out, I always say. And here he is walking out,” he wrote, adding that any interview with Trump would last “like two mins tops”.
“It’s funny how the female reporter is just sitting there all calm while the man who told you that a woman is too emotional to be president is having a full blown crash out on national TV,” one user wrote.
“He couldn’t crush the Iranians, let this defeated coward enjoy crushing a microphone at least,” another added.
“He is a petulant child and can’t handle any criticism or pushback, especially when he’s telling his favorite lies. Such a f*cking baby,” a third commenter posted.
Others called out what they saw as a pattern. “Everytime he gets asked a legit question he acts like a baby,” one user noted, while another wrote: “He is the dumbest president ever, no respect for anyone but his putrid self”.
Several pointed to Trump’s performance under pressure. “Trump is a mental midget, so when pressed, he gets flustered,” one commenter wrote. Another added: “Not for the first time Trump looks like he’s projecting, his performance as president is living proof”.
One user took particular aim at female journalists, writing: “It seems that female journalists are the only ones with the guts to call the Pedo-in-Chief out to his orange face. Good job Kristin on sending the cry baby off to change his diaper”.
Following the broadcast, Welker confirmed that Trump had agreed to sit down for another interview, noting that both had acknowledged the complications caused by rain during the original session.
