Super model Gigi Hadid has responded after her name and that of her sister Bella Hadid appeared in documents linked to the investigation into Jeffrey Epstein, saying she has no connection to him.
The reference comes from a 2015 email exchange between Epstein and a redacted individual, released by the United States (US) Department of Justice. In the exchange, the individual questioned how Gigi Hadid, 30, and Bella Hadid, 29, became models and earned money, writing, “How did the Hadid sisters become models and make so much money?”
Epstein replied, “You know,” prompting the individual to suggest that their father had “paid the agency.” Epstein responded, “No,” and later added, “Because they follow directions, it’s that simple.”
Following the release of the documents, a social media user commented on one of Hadid’s Instagram posts on March 29, saying they had unfollowed her due to her silence on the issue. Hadid later replied in a comment that has since been deleted, explaining her position.
“Horrible to read someone you’ve never met speak about you that way. Especially in this context,” she wrote. “I didn’t comment because I don’t want to take away from the stories of real victims of his; but your comment made me realize maybe it’s not clear and it’s important to let you know.”
She further addressed the mention of her name in the files, stating, “To be named in those files, I think I was 20-21 at the time he would have written that email is disturbing.”
“I want to state unequivocally that I have never had any affiliation with that disgusting human being,” she added. Hadid also said the documents “made me sick to my stomach.”
