Indian diplomat Randhir Jaiswal is facing intense criticism and mockery on X after a video showed him repeatedly eating nuts during Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian’s speech at the BRICS Summit in New Delhi.

He was seen reaching for a box of nuts placed on the table for delegates and officials, eating several times and licking his fingers before reaching for more.

The video, shared by commentator Mario Nawfal, showed Jaiswal continuing to snack as Pezeshkian delivered his address.

Mario wrote that the official was “absolutely demolishing a box of nuts” before adding that the box was eventually taken away in what he called “a diplomatic intervention in the truest sense.”

The footage quickly drew a host of reactions on X, with users mocking Jaiswal for repeatedly reaching for the snacks while the Iranian president was speaking.

One user wrote that Pezeshkian was giving a diplomatic speech while Jaiswal was “conducting a full scale investigation into the nut box”. Another commented, “Going nuts!”

Several users focused on Jaiswal licking his fingers after eating. One said he appeared determined to leave “no ounce of salt” behind, while another called him “another foody Desi James Bond” and described his snack hunt as “Mission Impossible: Mission: Find the snacks”.

Other users joked that Jaiswal “must be having a sugar deficit”, while another wrote, “It looks like the man was very hungry!”

His table manners also drew criticism. One user mocked him for “chewing with his mouth open”, while another described the behaviour as “disgusting freeloader mentality”.

Another user said that the incident has become an embarrassment for India, while others questioned why Jaiswal appeared so focused on eating during a formal diplomatic address.

The reactions continued to centre on his repeated trips to the snack box, finger-licking and table manners, with users turning the brief footage into a source of jokes and criticism.

The video surfaced after the 18th BRICS Summit concluded in New Delhi on September 13. The two-day summit brought together leaders including Chinese President Xi Jinping, Russian President Vladimir Putin and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian.
