Federal Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb has confirmed that the federal budget for the fiscal year 2026-27 will be presented before the Parliament on June 10.

The announcement follows consultative meetings between the federal government and its coalition partners to build consensus on the upcoming fiscal proposals.

Speaking to a private media outlet, Aurangzeb said that discussions with coalition partners remain positive, with another meeting scheduled by the end of the ongoing week.

The finance minister emphasised the need for moving forward in coordination with the International Monetary Fund (IMF), coalition partners and other stakeholders.

He also highlighted that the government, in the upcoming budget, aims to improve tax collection through enforcement and by widening the tax net rather than introducing new measures.

It merits a mention that the confirmation of the budget presentation date addresses earlier reports of delays. These delays emerged due to challenges in aligning provincial development allocations with national priorities, alongside ongoing efforts to finalise budgetary figures with the IMF.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar also confirmed the June 10 date after a pre-budget consultation meeting with the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP). Aurangzeb accompanied Dar to the meeting, which focused on current expenditures and development spending priorities.

According to a statement from the Deputy Prime Minister’s Office, the attendees discussed the Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP), fiscal sustainability, public welfare measures and economic growth strategies.

The President House had earlier announced that the National Assembly and the Senate will convene in Islamabad on June 5 for budget-related proceedings. The National Assembly session was to start at 5 pm, followed by the Senate session at 6 pm.

The government intended to conclude budget deliberations and adopt the proposals by June 24.

Under constitutional requirements, the budget must receive parliamentary approval before June 30 to take legal effect on July 1.
