Pakistan cricket team’s former captain Shahid Afridi slammed the national team’s skipper Babar Azam for not supporting Shaheen for captaincy.

Shahid Afridi, talking about the change in the captaincy of the team, said, “If Babar Azam took a stand for his players in the past and plays under the captaincy of Shaheen, then in the eyes of me and the world, Babar Azam’s honor would increase more.”

The former captain said, “Babar Azam should have told the board at that time that if you had made Shaheen the captain, it was a very wrong way to immediately remove him from the captaincy.”

Talking about ‘grouping in the team’ he said, “Due to the weakness of the captain, groups are formed in the team, and this grouping makes any captain weak and due to these issues, the respect of the captain in the team also decreases.”

“The formation of the group is the captain himself, because you blame every failure on the bowlers for not performing well in the match. I have never seen Babar criticising the batsmen. If the captain is strong then there will never be talk of such groupings.”

In December, last year, Babar Azam was removed from the captaincy of the Pakistan team after the poor performance of the Pakistan team in the World Cup hosted by India last year. Shan Masood was then given the Test while Shaheen Shah Afridi was given the captaincy of the T20 team.

The team under the captaincy of Shaheen played a series of five T20 matches against New Zealand in which the national team had to face a defeat of 1-4.

After this defeat, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) took the captaincy from Shaheen before the T20 World Cup and appointed Babar Azam as the T20 and ODI captain.
