Police have arrested a man in Gujranwala for allegedly assaulting his pregnant wife after an ultrasound showed that she was expecting a second daughter.
Police arrested Tayyab Manan from Wapda Town after his wife, Urooj, accused him of assaulting her because she refused an abortion.
According to the complaint registered by Urooj’s father, she already has one daughter and was six months pregnant when her husband learned through an ultrasound that her unborn child was also a girl.
The complaint also stated that Tayyab became enraged after learning the baby’s sex and wanted Urooj to undergo an abortion, which she refused.
Urooj told police that she refused to terminate the pregnancy, after which Tayyab allegedly kicked her in the abdomen. She also alleged that her in-laws were present and watched the assault.
Urooj’s father later approached police and registered a case against Tayyab.
Police said that they have started an investigation based on the statements of the complainant.
