Actor Hamza Ali Abbasi has spoken up about the stigma faced by divorced and widowed women who want to remarry, saying that society should not view their decision negatively.
Abbasi said that divorced or widowed women, particularly those with children, often face averse judgment when they express a desire to marry again.
“In our society, divorced or widowed women, especially those who have children, are often viewed negatively if they express a desire or inclination to remarry. A large section of our society does not look at such women in a positive way,” he said.
The actor stressed that choosing to remarry remains an individual decision, adding women should not face negative treatment for making that choice.
“Whether someone chooses to remarry or not is an individual choice. However, my point is that we should not look at women who want to remarry negatively. Our religion gives them this right, and basic ethics and morality also tell us that they have every right to make this choice for themselves,” Abbasi pointed out.
Abbasi is known for his work in some of Pakistan’s most popular television dramas, including Pyarey Afzal, Mann Mayal and Alif. He has also appeared in films such as Waar, Jawani Phir Nahi Ani and Parwaaz Hai Junoon.
His film career also includes a major role in Bilal Lashari’s The Legend of Maula Jatt, in which he played Noori Natt opposite Fawad Khan’s Maula Jatt. The 2022 film became one of the highest-grossing Pakistani films of all time.
Abbasi has also appeared in the fantasy superhero film Umro Ayyar: The Beginning and returned to television with Jaan-e-Jahan.
