A 64-year-old Karachi man who confessed to killing his 58-year-old wife after she refused to have marital relations with him was met outside court by a group of lawyers who expressed support for him with one of them telling him “You are in the right”. A video of the interaction circulated widely online and drew a torrent of outrage.
Users expressed shock, rage and disbelief in equal measure.
“He seems so self-righteous and satisfied like feeling no guilt over a murder. He thinks religion allowed him,” one user wrote. “Wtf, someone is saying haq pe ho,” another posted.
Others went straight for the lawyers. “Why are these mentally retarded lawyers saying haq pe ho?” one user wrote. “Cancel their licenses and tell their wives to give them some good treatment of chappals,” another added.
“Every lawyer who defends him, may the same be done to them on the day of judgement in front of Allah,” a third wrote.
Several users pointed to what they saw as a wider rot. “Tells you the state of Pakistani mama boys,” one wrote.
“Every act against humanity is endorsed and justified by the so-called educated class of Pakistan,” said another. “Pakistani men are monsters and zombies”.
One user brought up the victim. “She gave birth to 4 kids for him, he demanded sex. Are women born for the pleasure of men? Do we have no right to be a person even when our bones and bodies give up?”
Others flagged the support he was drawing on other platforms. “The amount of support he is receiving on TikTok and Facebook is so concerning. I will blame mullahs for this, they made our previous generations zombies and are now doing the same with the next generation,” one user wrote.
“What a sick, sick society,” another posted.
