Hasan Raheem’s Coke Studio track “Peechay Hutt” has made its way into Netflix’s new dance comedy Best of the Best, bringing the Pakistani singer’s music to the film’s Bollywood-fusion soundtrack.
The film, which started streaming on Netflix on September 18, follows childhood best friends Maya and Anjali as they join UCLA’s competitive Bollywood-fusion dance team and compete for the US championship.
“Peechay Hutt” originally appeared in Coke Studio Season 14 in 2022, with Raheem performing alongside Justin Bibis and Talal Qureshi. The song was released on February 19, 2022, and its official music video has crossed 28 million views on YouTube.
Raheem wrote the song, while the track’s narrative came from Raheem and Xulfi. Talal Qureshi and Xulfi worked on the composition, arrangement and production, with Talal also contributing the hook line.
The track blends Raheem’s vocals with Justin Bibis’ chorus and Qureshi’s electronic production. The song centres on the repeated “Peechay Hutt” hook and its dance-focused sound.
Best of the Best features “Peechay Hutt” alongside tracks from artists including BLACKPINK, ENHYPEN, Hanumankind and A.R. Rahman. The film’s soundtrack also includes Pakistani and South Asian music alongside international pop and hip-hop tracks.
Directed by Lena Khan, the film stars Maitreyi Ramakrishnan as Maya and Priyanka Kedia as Anjali, with Hasan Minhaj playing Professor Hamza Latif. Netflix describes the film as a story about friendship, sisterhood and self-acceptance set around the college Bollywood-fusion dance scene.
