Late Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala’s younger brother Shubhdeep Singh Sidhu, also known as Nikka Sidhu, joined his parents Balkaur Singh and Charan Kaur on stage during a hologram show in Toronto, drawing mixed reactions on social media.
While the show celebrated the late singer’s legacy on Saturday, several social media users expressed concern over the young child’s appearance on stage, arguing that he should be allowed to enjoy his childhood without the pressure of carrying his assassinated brother’s legacy.
One user wrote, “Not every child has to carry the weight of a legacy. I feel bad for Sidhu Moosewala’s little brother. Let him enjoy his childhood, grow at his own pace, and choose his own path. He deserves to be a child first, not a symbol of someone else’s legacy.”
Another commented that the child was being made to bear a burden he had never signed up for.
One person questioned the decision to have another child after losing an older one, writing, “I will still never wrap my head around that your first instinct as a parent is to give birth to another one instead of grieving your eldest one’s death, they think this is a bollywood movie, where his chota bhai will take revenge for his brothers death when he grows up.”
Another agreed, adding that the child’s individuality was being overlooked even before he was born. They wrote that his parents appeared to have had another child because they lost their son and wanted someone to support them in old age and carry Sidhu’s legacy forward.
A social media user also questioned whether people knew the child’s name, writing, “Exactly!!! It’s like everyone unanimously has decided his future and how he will behave in public. Does anyone even know his name?? All I hear is Siddhu’s brother, jr sidhu etc etc.. Lost identity at this small age!!!! And the people cheering are equally responsible.”
One comment criticised the pressure being placed on the child, saying that he was being pushed to become a replica of Sidhu from birth. It added that his parents appeared to want fame, name, luxury and revenge instead of allowing their family to enjoy a peaceful life.
“I feel sad for him too, he deserves to live as a normal child,” another comment read.
One post also expressed concern about the child being exposed to the same influences they believed had affected Sidhu, writing that his parents should keep an eye on him as he grows older. It added that having the same parents did not mean another child would necessarily turn out like Sidhu.
Another commenter wrote, “Totally agree!! Feel bad for this cute little munchkin. He’s sooo adorable!! Dunno why he’s being made to do all this…really sad. Let the kid grow up naturally…let him have fun, enjoy his childhood. He deserves to be treated like a kid n not a carrier of his brothers legacy.”
Others also questioned why the child was being brought into the spotlight at such a young age.
“He’s so tiny and cute he must be so confused,” one user wrote.
Another commented, “Let him go to school,” questioning whether the family was using the young child to gain attention.
A Sidhu Moosewala fan, however, acknowledged that his parents had a right to preserve the singer’s legacy but argued that the child was too young to handle the attention.
“As a Sidhu fan I agree with you yes Sidhu moose wala left a legacy and name behind it’s okay if his parents want to share the stage that’s understandable they are there to protect his legacy and carry it forward but the little bro is too little to handle this fame,” the user wrote.
Another person warned that the child’s mindset could be shaped by the attention surrounding him, writing, “His mind would be conditioned for it.”
Others questioned the purpose of the appearance, with one user commenting, “such a cutie pie. he should be playing with toys at this age what the hell is wrong with everyone.”
One commenter also criticised events organised in the late singer’s name, writing, “He would never have wished this. People are making money from his legacy by doing such undesirable gatherings/shows in the name of Siddhu.”
Another user suggested that the child’s birth had been tied to the expectation of continuing his brother’s legacy, writing, “He was procreated for this day and more.”
One of the harsher reactions accused the family of exploiting the child, with one person writing, “They’re just farming out of this kid cuz their elder son has gone . Shameful.”
