A school in Sindh’s Moro is facing criticism after it posted a TikTok video showing students in a staged scene that linked respect for girls with wearing hijab.

The video showed boys, who appeared to be around eight to 10 years of age, standing in two queues with a space between them. A group of girls of a similar age walked between the two lines while the boys looked at them and laughed after they passed.

Another group of girls then walked through the same space while wearing hijabs. The boys turned their backs as the girls passed.

The school posted the video with the caption “Hijab izzat hai [Hijab is respect]”, presenting the scene as a lesson about how girls who wear hijab receive respect as compared to girls who do not.

The video drew criticism from users who said schools should teach boys to respect every girl regardless of her clothing.

“What rubbish? Educate them to respect every girl. If a girl is not wearing hijab, it does not mean she is a bad girl,” one user wrote.

Another said, “Not good. Respect every woman no matter what she wears.”

“Brother, what is being taught in school? Whether a girl wears hijab or not, teach boys to respect every girl,” another user commented.

“Islam is not like this,” wrote one user.

Another comment questioned the message behind the video and said, “What does this mean? If a girl is not wearing a hijab, it means she is a bad girl and rebellious? But it all depends on the person. We have seen a man looking for a fully covered woman rather than one who is not. Maybe you can convey the message better.”

One user referred to Islamic teachings about modesty but said that the lesson should also focus on boys controlling their gaze.

“Islam does command women to observe modesty, but before that, men are commanded to lower their gaze. But what are you teaching children? That a woman’s respect lies in her veil and not in the woman herself? A woman remains safe when a man keeps his gaze in the right way,” the comment read.

Several users called for action against the school. “This school should be shut down. Reporting it,” one user wrote, while another said, “What nonsense, please take action against this school. What the hell are they teaching those innocent kids? Horrible.”

Others described the message as a “very wrong concept” and said that schools should teach boys to respect every girl instead of placing responsibility on girls.

A user called for the teacher concerned to be expelled, while another said, “Wearing hijab is everyone’s personal matter with Allah. That does not allow any single boy to make fun of or look at her with lust. What is wrong with schools these days?”

Other users called the video “rubbish education”, “cheap mentality” and “totally against Islam”.
