A DNA report summary presented in the murder investigation of Hina Javed has identified matches linked to her husband Faisal Asghar and domestic worker Zeeshan Arshad.
The victim’s family has renewed its demand for a fair and transparent probe.
According to the reports, Faisal’s DNA matched at four locations, while Zeeshan’s DNA matched material recovered from beneath Hina’s fingernails. Faisal’s fingerprints also appeared on the victim’s neck, clothes, a room door handle and a sheet used in the crime. The findings do not by themselves establish the guilt of either suspect, and investigators and the courts will have to assess how the material got there.
Hina’s brother Fahad Javed said that he has no confidence in the police investigation. He alleged that investigators are trying to place the entire blame on Zeeshan despite the forensic findings.
The family has asked the Punjab government to form a judicial commission for an independent inquiry. Fahad and the family’s lawyer Shah Khawar voiced their concerns to the investigation team, which assured them it would investigate impartially and on merit.
The Punjab Crime Control Department (CCD) began a fresh investigation on the directives of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif. A team led by Additional Inspector General Sohail Zafar Chattha reviewed the DNA report, the post-mortem findings, the crime scene evidence and the earlier investigation. According to reports, Faisal’s fingerprints on the sheet and door handle do not prove he took part in the crime.
The family rejected the findings and alleged that someone tampered with evidence.
Hina, 45, was a digital designer who married Faisal in November 2025. Police found her dead in the bathroom of her in-laws’ residence in Rawalpindi’s Lal Kurti area on August 20. Her hands were tied behind her back while a wire was wrapped around her neck. Her father-in-law had reportedly told police that burglars entered the house.
Fahad filed a murder case at the Civil Lines police station against her husband, her father-in-law and Zeeshan. The autopsy found a fractured neck bone and injuries to her ribs and hip.
Police arrested Faisal and Zeeshan, and both remain on judicial remand at Adiala Jail. Police have claimed that Zeeshan confessed that Faisal offered him money. Faisal and his father have denied the allegations.
