An Indian Air Force (IAF) wing commander has been arrested and placed in judicial custody over allegations of leaking sensitive defence information to Pakistani intelligence operatives.
Delhi Police said the officer was booked under India’s Official Secrets Act, which prohibits the unauthorised disclosure of protected government and defence information.
He is accused of sharing classified information and confidential defence documents after being “honey-trapped” by unknown persons.
The IAF said the officer had been under active surveillance before being handed over to law enforcement agencies. “He was under active surveillance and was handed over to the suitable law enforcement agencies. Due to proactive measures, he was caught. The IAF has zero tolerance for such activities.”
Delhi Police also accused the officer of installing data-stealing software on a colleague’s mobile phone in an alleged attempt to gain control of the device.
The case, however, isn’t the first of its kind as Rajasthan Police in 2025 arrested one Mangat Singh on allegations of spying for Pakistan.
Police said Singh came under suspicion during a surveillance operation in Alwar’s cantonment area following Operation Sindoor. Authorities alleged that he had maintained contact with Pakistani handlers through social media for two years.
Rajasthan Police further alleged that Singh had been approached by a woman using the pseudonym Isha Sharma, who offered him money in exchange for cooperation.
While the latest case remains under investigation, the allegations against the wing commander are yet to be established in court.
