The court has ordered the registration of a murder case over the death of actress and model Humaira Asghar.

The directive was issued by the Additional District and Sessions Judge (South), Karachi.

The petition maintained that “Humaira Asghar was murdered and the relevant persons, including her makeup artist, should also be included in the investigation.”

After reviewing the report by the petitioner’s lawyer and the police, the court ruled, “In light of the available records, a cognizable offence has been committed. Therefore, a case should be registered by recording the statements of Humaira Asghar’s family and the state.”

Humaira Asghar’s body was recovered from a flat in Ittehad Commercial, Karachi, on July 8, when the landlord approached the court for non-payment of rent, and the door was broken down by a court bailiff.

The post-mortem report revealed that the body was in the final stages of decomposition, suggesting that the actress died nearly eight months ago.

Investigating authorities shared that Humaira Asghar had been facing financial difficulties. Her last commercial shoot took place in September 2024, and work-related contacts were ongoing until October 2024.

In addition, chemical reports from the flat revealed that five samples found in frozen items contained sea salt, which is commonly used to reduce odours and repel insects. However, the salt found in the kitchen was different. According to investigators, “this detail may provide new angles to the case.”

Further inquiry also uncovered that the actress’s phone was active until October 2024. Despite repeated calls from her makeup artist, no response was received, and her WhatsApp profile picture was deleted.
