Police officials have revealed that the family of actress and model Humaira Asghar has refused to claim her body, which was found on Tuesday, nearly two weeks after she died in Karachi.

According to Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) South Mehzor Ali, authorities tracked Humaira’s phone number through her landlord and used call data records to contact her father and brother. Her father refused to come to Karachi, revealing that he had severed ties with her nearly two years ago. Police report that they have since been unable to get back in touch with him.

Efforts to encourage the family to claim her remains are currently ongoing. Two mobile devices were recovered from her apartment in DHA Phase VI, and data recovery is in progress. The autopsy and toxicology reports are still awaited. SSP Mehzor noted that a case will be initiated if there is any indication of foul play, regardless of the family’s willingness to pursue it.

Humaira had been living alone in the apartment and had allegedly not paid rent since 2024. Her landlord had initiated legal action, resulting in court orders for eviction. When police entered the residence last week, they discovered her body in an advanced state of decomposition. Neighbours told officers that she was rarely seen and did not interact with others in the building.

However, several actors and artists have expressed their sorrow and concern online.

Actor Amar Khan stated that Humaira’s death reflects the state of the industry and society. “It’s a day for reflection... you face judgment based on your attire, vehicles, career, and finances,” she shared, encouraging young women to prioritise their mental well-being.

Mawra Hocane urged anyone facing challenges in the industry to reach out, saying, “I will not judge. I promise... I will do my best to be there.” Hina Altaf labeled it a call to action, writing, “She lived alone. She passed away alone. And days went by before anyone noticed.”

Adnan Siddiqui remembered Humaira as a compassionate colleague, while Ali Rehman also expressed sorrow and prayed for her peace.

Humaira gained public recognition after appearing on the reality series Tamasha Ghar and also featured in the 2015 movie Jalaibee.
