Police in Rawalpindi have registered a murder case after finding a 45-year-old woman dead inside an apartment in the Askari Apartments area.
According to reports, Civil Lines area police arrested the victim’s husband Dr Faisal Asghar Imam and a domestic worker namely Zeeshan Arshad.
Her father-in-law Col (r) Asghar Ali Fayyaz was also named in the FIR [First Information Report], however, he remains out of police custody.
The victim was an employee at a semi-government organisation, and married Imam in November 2025. Her brother, Fahad Javed Malik, filed the complaint after receiving an early morning phone call from Fayyaz regarding an emergency at the residence.
When Javed and other family members reached the second-floor flat, they found the victim dead in the bathroom.
The FIR stated that the victim’s hands were tied behind her back, a gag in her mouth and a wire wrapped around her neck. The wire was secured to the bathroom shower, leaving the body leaning toward the floor while blood was also dripping from the victim’s mouth.
He told police that Imam subjected the victim to severe physical torture before her death, adding that the husband also maintained a history of physical and psychological abuse during the marriage.
Javed e noted that Imam had also previously abused his ex-wife, who filed for divorce as a result.
In statements to a media outlet, he confirmed that the victim had informed the family of ongoing abuse prior to the incident, noting that Imam also experienced periods of unemployment during their marriage.
Meanwhile, the victim’s family has issued a formal statement demanding Fayyaz’s immediate arrest and calling for an investigation free from administrative pressure or delay.
“Every person who enabled, concealed, or participated in this crime must face the law. Partial accountability is no accountability,” the family stated, adding that violence against women in homes is not a private matter.
“It is a crime, and it must be treated as one,” the statement added.
Further probe is underway.
