‘I went into depression’: Hiba Bukhari opens up on being body shamed, social media trolls
Actor Hiba Bukhari appeared on Ahsan Khan’s show Time Out With Ahsan Khan alongside her celebrity husband, Arez Ahmed.
The Berukhi diva opened up on being body shamed on the show. Hiba mentioned that after her play Fitoor costarring Faysal Qureshi went on-air, she received a polarising response for her physical appearance.
Her character was that of a college going girl but a section of netizens dropped mean comments for her, they said that she looks old for the part and even body shamed her.
Hiba said, “While I was doing Fitoor, I was going through a bad phase, very bad, by the end of it I was disturbed.”
“Its not just that I only get praised, I get criticised too.”
When Ahsan asked her to elaborate, she mentioned, “Actually I gained a little weight during it, and then people around me and on social media started talking.”
“I got stressed out, I got into depression and I started eating more and gained 5-6 Kgs in a month because of that depression.”
She concluded by saying that, “People who preach on social media to not body shame people actually do it a lot themselves.”
Earlier in an interview with Something Haute, the Inteha-e-Ishq diva addressed the criticism on her wardrobe for Fitoor.
Regarding the wardrobe, Hiba said, “Fitoor is directed by Siraj-ul-Haque and he always has a thing in his mind to make everything look dreamy. He wanted me to dress the way Dilnasheen was dressed up.”
She added, “The wardrobe was presented by 7th Sky. I didn’t made them myself. That’s what it is, we actors alone aren’t responsible for everything. We are just doing our job, we have to do whatever our directors and producers ask us to do.”
