Dr Bahu director Mehreen Jabbar has responded to criticism from writer Dr Muhammad Younis Butt, saying that she has no interest in reacting to opinions about her work.

Jabbar addressed the criticism during an appearance on Rise & Shine, hosted by Nadia Khan and Zohaib Hassan.

The hosts asked her about Dr Younis Butt’s remarks, in which he said Kubra Khan’s crying scenes felt repetitive, called the drama unnecessarily stretched, and said Jabbar’s direction turned a fast paced story sluggish.

“I won’t say anything to this criticism. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, and it is not my personality to comment on any such opinion. I have no interest in reacting to such criticism. Critics and audiences have the right to express their views, and that is what freedom of speech and freedom of thought are all about. As a drama maker, it is impossible to create a project that pleases everyone. I believe it is best to accept differing opinions and move on,” Jabbar said.

Earlier, on his YouTube channel, Dr Younis Butt targeted the performances of Kubra Khan and Shuja Asad. He said Kubra is playing the role of Dr Bahu and criticized her for performing every emotion with the same expression.

“You can’t even tell if she is really crying or if the Face ID isn’t being recognized by the system,” he said.

He added that her long pauses while delivering dialogues cause the drama to drag from 26 episodes to 32, and said her delivery is so poor that every scene deserves subtitles.

“She has only two qualities: staring and crying with a perfect liner,” he remarked.

Turning to Shuja Asad, who plays Kubra Khan’s husband, Dr Younis Butt said his only good quality is that he is not a doctor in a family of doctors. He noted that Asad wears the same expression in almost every scene, regardless of whether it calls for intensity or calm.

“His acting is like weak Wi-Fi signals, where reactions come late,” he stated.

He further said that Mehreen Jabbar has the quality to turn a fast paced drama into a slow and dragged out show.

Dr Bahu stars Kubra Khan in the lead role and has drawn strong viewership. The drama is written by Sanam Mehdi Zaryab and produced by Six Sigma Plus. Despite its popularity, several viewers have felt that the story has been stretched in recent episodes.
