Former prime minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan may be shifted to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) in Islamabad, media reports have said, citing sources.
The possibility of his transfer increased after an important meeting was held in Islamabad, with authorities yet to make a final decision on moving him to the hospital.
Sources told a private media outlet that consultations between officials are going on over the proposed transfer.
The meeting reviewed administrative arrangements related to Imran’s possible hospitalisation, including the formation of a medical board and security arrangements at PIMS.
Preparations for his possible transfer have also begun, according to sources. Arrangements are being made at PIMS for a medical examination and treatment.
The development comes after the Supreme Court of Pakistan (SCP) ordered government authorities to shift PTI founder and former prime minister Imran Khan to Shifa International Hospital.
A three-member bench comprising Justice Shahid Waheed, Justice Naeem Akhtar Afghan, and Justice Ishtiaq Ibrahim issued the directive during the hearing. The court permitted Khan’s personal physician Dr. Faisal Sultan and his sister Dr. Uzma Khan to accompany him at the medical facility.
The judges also allowed family members to meet the former prime minister once a week.
The court ordered Khan to remain hospitalized until the next hearing while adjourning the proceedings to September 16.
