Star Indian actor Ram Charan has issued a public apology to Indian cricket team pacer Jasprit Bumrah after mistakenly referring to him as a footballer during a media interaction.
The incident took place at the grand music launch of Peddi in Bhopal, where Ram Charan appeared alongside Janhvi Kapoor, AR Rahman, and the rest of the film’s team.
During the event, he was asked to describe several Indian cricketers in a few words. He called Sachin Tendulkar’s career a “long legendary run,” described Dhoni as “calm and cool,” summed up Virat Kohli as “fire,” and said of Rohit Sharma, “He’s everybody’s man.”
When asked about Bumrah, however, he mixed up cricket with football.”Jasprit Bumrah ji, I am your biggest fan, I love football and the way you’re moving forward football, love you sir.” he said.
The video spread quickly across social media, with fans commenting on the error and creating memes.
Ram Charan later took to X to set things right.
“Uff… I’m genuinely so forgetful with names sometimes. Apologies to @Jaspritbumrah93 Ji for the mix-up, it was a genuine human error in the middle of all the excitement and the crowd,” he wrote. He added that he respected the India fast bowler and was a big fan of his game.
Bumrah has been going through a difficult IPL 2026 season with Mumbai Indians.
Head coach Mahela Jayawardene revealed that a niggle Bumrah carried from this year’s T20 World Cup had cost him his sharpness on the pitch. “Coming back from the World Cup, he had a slight niggle which he played with through the World Cup, so we gave him adequate rest to come back,” Jayawardene told reporters on the eve of Mumbai Indians’ final IPL game against Rajasthan Royals.
The pacer managed just four wickets from 13 games this season.
