Indian Punjabi actress Sargun Mehta has openly expressed admiration for Pakistani dramas during the London promotion of her upcoming film Carry on Jatta 4, saying that she watches the industry’s content regularly and counts several of its biggest stars among her personal favourites.
Speaking to a Pakistani reporter, Mehta said, “I have watched all your shows, I think I may have watched even more than you. Humayun Saeed, Mahira Khan, Hania Aamir and Bilal Abbas, I can hand you a full list. I enjoy it a lot.”
This is not the first time Mehta has spoken about her love for Pakistani content. In a 2022 interview, she called herself the biggest fan of Pakistani dramas and revealed that she watches them obsessively.
“I am the biggest fan of Pakistani dramas. I always keep a list and finish Pakistani dramas in three or maximum four days. My top of the list is Meray Paas Tum Ho, which I have already watched thrice. I love Raqeeb Se, the drama is ahead of its time and written beautifully,” she said at the time.
Mehta is one of the most recognised faces in Punjabi cinema. She is the recipient of five PTC Punjabi Film Awards and two Filmfare Awards Punjabi.
She made her film debut with the 2015 Punjabi romantic comedy Angrej, which became the year’s second-highest-grossing Punjabi film, earning her the PTC Punjabi Film Award for Best Actress. Her performances in Love Punjab (2016) and Lahoriye (2017) won her two Filmfare Awards for Best Actress.
She later earned further acclaim for her roles in Qismat (2018) and its 2021 sequel, and has also expanded into production through her company Dreamiyata Entertainment.
Carry on Jatta 4 is scheduled for worldwide release on June 26, 2026. It is the fourth instalment in the franchise, directed by Smeep Kang and written by Naresh Kathooria, produced by Gippy Grewal and Ravneet Kaur Grewal under Humble Motion Pictures in association with Panorama Studios.
Mehta is not alone among Indian celebrities in her appreciation for Pakistani content. Amitabh Bachchan, speaking to BBC Urdu, said Pakistani drama serials are exceptional and accepted that Pakistani TV serials are far superior to those made in India.
Bollywood actress Kajol, in an interview with the Express Tribune, said that Indian TV producers have a lot to learn from Pakistani dramas, praising their content and the pleasant quality of the language.
