US diplomat Natalie Jones has triggered a wave of Indian trolls by highlighting Pakistan’s “contribution to preventing war between nuclear-armed neighbors”.

She explicitly emphasized, “The statesmanship of Pakistan’s leaders, your willingness to de-escalate and stabilize a dangerous confrontation, is not forgotten in Washington. It is admired, and it opened a new chapter.”

The praise directly referenced a tense military standoff that erupted last year when India launched an attack on Pakistan on May 7. After Pakistan retaliated by downing several Indian Air force jets, including Rafales, the US President brokered a ceasefire on May 10, an intervention Pakistan openly praised but India has stubbornly refused to acknowledge.

The high-profile statement was delivered during an official diplomatic reception in Islamabad. The event commemorated the 250th anniversary of American independence under the official theme “United States Celebrates 250 Years of Independence and a Transformed Partnership with Pakistan”. The appreciation of Pakistani diplomacy, delivered right in front of the country’s top leadership, quickly triggered an explosive reaction from Indian social media accounts.

Indian netizens and trolls became absolutely furious, taking the praise as a direct insult to New Delhi. Online commentary rapidly devolved into a mix of frustration and conspiracy theories, with many viewing the shifting American tone as a betrayal of India’s strategic interests.

One disgruntled user commented, “Constant humiliation of India by the US should give India hint that in the next war, US won’t be standing with India. Hence it is better to resolve Kashmir through UN resolutions.”

Other netizens resorted to aggressive rhetoric, historical distortions, and personal insults to cope with the diplomatic statement. A popular response on social media read, “What she trying to say that America continues to fund terrorism & destabilize India. For this reason only Britishers did partition of India.”

Another troll, attempting to downplay the status of the diplomat, remarked, “Top US diplomat’? She looks like some low-level State Dept employee of Pakistani origin”.

The digital meltdown reflects a growing anxiety among Indian nationalists regarding US-Pakistan ties, prompting some to lash out at American foreign policy on a global scale. Deflecting from the event, one user wrote, “US says it admires its glorious thing of ceasefire than why are they failing to do so themselves in Iran, attacked Venezuela, will attack Cuba and alas Greenland”.

Summing up the collective frustration of the online ecosystem, another user described the event as nothing less than “a slap to India”, exposing deep-seated insecurities over bilateral shifts in South Asian geopolitics.
