An Indonesian woman was recovered by police in Hyderabad, Karachi and handed over to officials from her country’s consulate on Saturday following court orders.
According to reports, Indah Marlyan had filed a complaint with the Indonesian consulate, alleging that she was facing domestic violence after marrying Naik Mohammad Shaikh, also known as Mohammad Hamza Mirza.
The matter was later taken up by the Indonesian consulate with Sindh government authorities, after which the women development department moved an application before the additional district judge-V under Section 491 of the Criminal Procedure Code for her recovery.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Hyderabad Shahzeb Chachar has said that the woman and her infant daughter were handed over to the Indonesian consulate under judicial supervision.
Police also detained Naik Mohammad.
The recovery operation was carried out after an application was submitted to the court by the women development department through its representative, Ishtiaq Channa.
According to the application, the woman was allegedly being kept in wrongful confinement at a residence in Gul Latif Housing Society in Qasimabad.
The applicant informed the court that the department had received a request for protection on August 8. The woman had alleged that her husband had threatened and assaulted her.
Official sources said that the Indonesian consulate in Karachi had also contacted the Chief Secretary of Sindh and the Inspector General of police, seeking assistance to ensure her safe recovery.
The court directed the SSP and the station house officer concerned to recover the woman and present her before the court on August 13, an order that was later carried out.
