Netizens are heaping praise on the Keamari senior superintendent of police (SSP) for de-escalating the situation after an enraged mob surrounded a Christian family’s residence in Karachi.
As per the details, the SSP Sanghaar Malik’s strategic and measured approach successfully defused the highly volatile situation caused by a protest that erupted in the port city on July 9.
“In my authority as the SSP of Keamari district, I am the guarantor of your sentiments and feelings, and I am also the guarantor of the peace and security of this area,” he can be heard as saying while addressing the mob in a now-viral video.
He went on to told the crowd that Allah had clearly stated in the Holy Quran how verifying information or any news is as necessary and obligatory as it is for Muslims to have faith.
The video drew a number of reactions online as people highlighted that courage needed to manage such a delicate situation. One netizen noted, “It takes lot of guts to face a charged-up crowd when it comes to a sensitive issue of Blasphemy & SSP handled a tricky situation very well [sic].”
Another user remarked, “More power to the officer.”
Others also expressed their support: “This police officer is amazing. May Allah protect him,” while one user noted that the SSP handled this sensitive situation very carefully. “We know what happened in the past in mob gatherings [sic].”
“Well said by officer. Respect,” hailed a user, and another said, “This police officer from Karachi is saying very excellent things. By giving a reference from the Holy Quran that if any transgressor brings you news, then verify it. Well done.”
Some also drew parallels between the video and the one from Lahore in 2024 that showed Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Syeda Shehrbano Naqvi courageously rescuing a woman from a mob.
The crowd had surrounded the woman in a local market for wearing a dress featuring Arabic calligraphy.
